SMALL GROUPS


If a group of 10 or more plans to visit the museum during our regular hours, we ask that you inform us ahead of time so that we can be sure to be appropriately staffed to meet your needs and that there are no scheduling conflicts with other groups or activities. Please contact Joanie Pinson at 301-384-6352 (extension 103) or at educator@dctrolley.org.
 
With this arrangement, your group will be riding the street car according to the schedule for the day, along with other riders (fare schedule). A Party Room is available for rental on Saturdays and Sundays, should you wish to make arrangements 2 weeks ahead of time.
 
For private street car rides, or for rides when the museum is not normally open, see Charters below.

The Museum is located in Northwest Branch Park and Montgomery County Park regulations apply.
  • Food and drinks are allowed only in the Party Room. Please clean up the Party Room by the end of your rental period. Please bring your own garbage bags and dispose of your trash in the designated container.
  • No eating or drinking is permitted in the Museum or on the street cars except in the Party Room; smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Museum or on the street cars.
  • Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed on the property.
  • All pets must be kept on a leash and you must clean up after your pet. Pets are not permitted in the Museum or on the street cars.

FIELD TRIPS WITH AN EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY

The Museum offers age-appropriate programs for children’s groups, ages 4 thru 11 years, on Thursdays and Fridays from October 1 through November 15, and March 15 through May 15. (See our page "For Teachers" for more information about these activities.)
  • Each group on a field trip participates in a
    • session with the Educational Director leading an activitiy appropriate for the age group,
    • a ride on a vintage street car, and
    • guided visit in the exhibit halls (Main Exhibit Hall, Conduit Hall and Display Car House.
  • Thirty minutes are scheduled for each activity.
  • Currently, there is no picnic area available on the grounds; picnic facilities are available at Layhill Park, 1 mile north of the intersection of Layhill Road and Bonifant Road.
  • Up to 25 children can be accommodated in a group. If more than one class participates in the field trip, we will ask the organizers to divide the students into groups no larger than 25 (plus teachers and chaperones for each group). Up to 75 students can be accommodated with one scheduled booking. Please note: with multiple groups, each group may be doing a different activity at the same time. Not every group will start their activities with the educational session.
  • There is an educational fee of $25.00* for each group of 25 students.
  • Tickets to ride the vintage street car are an additional $4.00 for each rider [child, teacher, or chaperone] (fare schedule).
  • *Group bookings and payment of the educational fee(s) must be made at least two weeks in advance of the museum visit.
  • Please note that your booking is not reserved until the educational fee has been received.
  • Should you wish to schedule a field trip for times when the museum is not normally open, there is an additional fee schedule with special opening charges.
  • A different alternative, without a special educational program, is to make group arrangements at regular admission and fare charges.

CHARTERS

Pre-book arrangements and make required payments (marked *) at least two weeks prior to the visit by contacting Joanie Pinson at 301-384-6352 (extension 103) or at educator@dctrolley.org.
BIRTHDAY/OTHER PARTIES
  • For just $150* your party of up to 45 people can enjoy admission to the museum plus one exclusive street car ride on a vintage trolley through Northwest Branch Park on any Saturday or Sunday during regular museum hours, January thru November (not available in December). We provide the trolley, you provide the guests!
  • You may schedule your private car for 12:45, 1:45, 2:45, or 3:45 PM.
  • An indoor Party Room is available for 2 hours for $100* on Saturdays and Sundays. The Party Room must be cleaned and vacated by the end of your rental period.
  • If you rent the Party Room without a street car charter, regular admission rates prevail.
  • All food and beverages must be brought in or delivered. There are no kitchen facilities or vending machines on site.
  • * Car charters and party room rentals must be booked and paid for no later than two weeks prior to the event. To make inquiries or arrangements contact Joanie Pinson at 301-384-6352 (extension 103) or at educator@dctrolley.org.

PRIVATE GROUP RIDES
  • A street car for your exclusive use, holding up to 45 riders, may be chartered for $150* per trip on our demonstration railroad.
  • The group will enjoy a 20 minute ride on a vintage trolley through Northwest Branch Park and Museum Admission on any Saturday or Sunday during regular museum hours, January thru November (not available in December).
  • You may schedule your private car for 12:45, 1:45, 2:45, or 3:45 PM.

The Museum's Classroom is available for pre-arranged rental on Saturdays and Sundays, January thru November, for groups chartering street car rides (Birthday Rides or Private Groups) or for smaller groups paying regular admission to the Museum.
  • An indoor Party Room is available for 2 hours for $100*. The Party Room must be cleaned and vacated by the end of your rental period.
  • If you rent the Party Room without a street car charter, regular admission rates prevail.

FACILITY RENTAL FOR PRIVATE FUNCTIONS

The Visitors Center and grounds (with or without street cars on display or in operation) may be rented outside of public hours for private functions. Please see the fee schedule for the various options available.
