All Aboard! Poetry in Motion

Did you know one of the most famous poets and activists in the world was once a street car conductor? Maya Angelou, known for her inspiring works such as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, worked for Market Street Railway Company in San Francisco as one of the first Black people to be employed as crew. At this month’s All Aboard! we’ll honor Maya Angelou and her poetry by creating some transit-themed poems of our own. Try your hand at collage and blackout poetry!

All Aboard! is NCTM’s monthly family program series. Every first Saturday of the month, join us to learn about a new topic of transit history through hands-on learning, scientific experimentation, creating art, and more! Designed for ages 4 and up, younger children may succeed with adult assistance.
